PATU Press 20.09.2023. The Pan American Taekwondo Union accredited in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the third promotion of Pan American Referees after the conclusion of the Pan American Poomsae and Kyorugui Refereeing Seminar held from September 19 to 20 at the Marriot Hotel in the Carioca metropolis.
After the training and accreditation sessions held in Aguascalientes, Mexico (January) and Heredia, Costa Rica (February), Rio de Janeiro allowed more than 50 referees to be accredited with continental rank, under the guidance and direction of IR Axel Sanchez, PATU Referee Chairman and IR Araceli Ornelas (MEX).
"We are proud to be able to provide them with the pedagogical tools and knowledge that will allow them to grow in the world of refereeing, and to move up and evolve from national referees to Pan American referees. We want our team of International Referees to grow and strengthen in the near future", said Mario Mandel, PATU Secretary General, who accompanied the participants on the closing day on September 20, together with Hung Ki Kim, PATU vice-president and technical delegate for the President's Cup G2 to be held in Rio de Janeiro.
The Seminar covered current issues of the World Taekwondo kyorugui rules, as well as aspects of interest related to the evaluation criteria of recognized poomsae and freestyle.

The Pan American Referees Seminar was the preamble to the start of the President's Cup Pan America G2 Rio de Janeiro 2023, the first edition of this tournament to be held in South America, which brings together a large number of athletes who will qualify for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
The tournament will be held from September 21 to 24 at the Arena Carioca 1 in Rio de Janeiro, and will award 20 points to the World Taekwondo ranking and Pan American P8 Ranking for cadets and juniors.
