With the goal of further advancing the comprehensive development of its athletes, the Panamanian Taekwondo Federation officially inaugurated its new Technical Training Center, located at the Combat Center of the Irving Saladino Sports City in Juan Díaz, Panama City.

The opening ceremony took place on July 4 and brought together national sports authorities, Taekwondo officials, coaches, athletes, and members of the South Korean diplomatic corps—demonstrating strong institutional support and a shared vision for the sport’s growth.

This new facility, made possible through joint efforts between the Federation and Pandeportes, marks a major step toward the professionalization of training. Francisco Sanjur, Secretary General of Pandeportes, emphasized that the project is part of a broader strategy to enhance combat sports facilities, including investments in tatami mats and improved training conditions.

During the event, the Embassy of South Korea in Panama made a generous donation of equipment such as headgear and palchaguis, further strengthening the cultural and historical ties between both nations through Taekwondo. Representing the embassy were Consul Kim Kapsoo and Specialist Irene Kang.

Beyond its practical purpose, the center also features a commemorative mural honoring Panamanian athletes who have participated in the Olympic cycle—a visual tribute that serves as daily motivation for future generations.

“This space will not only be used for training but also to continue educating our referees and coaches,” said Boris Álvarez, a Federation official. Meanwhile, national team athlete Daniela Rodríguez called the inauguration a milestone: “In all my years as a high-performance athlete, we’ve never had anything like this. It makes me truly happy. This will help us prepare better for upcoming challenges like the Central American and Bolivarian Games.”

With this inauguration, Panama reinforces its commitment to high-performance sport and sets the stage for a new chapter in the history of national Taekwondo.
